“I wish my mom, dad, and siblings were still here…”
These were the heartbreaking words of 9-year-old Rimas Khalifa, the only survivor of a horrific massacre carried out by the Israeli occupation.
Rimas was with her parents and siblings in their home while her mother prepared food when the first missile struck. The blast hit her in the eye and head.
Just minutes later, a second missile landed,and then everything went dark.
She remained trapped under the rubble for hours before being rescued and taken to the hospital.
When she finally woke up, the first thing she asked about was her family. Her aunt had to break the devastating news: they were all gone.
Now, Rimas carries the scars of that day.
She suffers from severe injuries to her eye and head and dreams of undergoing surgery to regain even a small part of what was taken from her.
She hopes to continue her education, but her biggest wish will always remain impossible,to be with her family once more.
